Stone is the major resource used in building defences for a city. While stone is only used in small quantities for the majority of activities in the game, it is the most critical resource for building the Ramparts and Palace in a city, and an Ally Base will require significant amounts for upgrades. A constant supply of stone is needed to keep a city's Ramparts in good condition, and a large quantity of stone may be needed to repair them after the city has been attacked.

Stone is produced by Quarries, which are slower to build than Croplands but faster to build than Copper Mines. Unlike the other resources there's generally an abundant supply of stone on the player's Market, so a city with a decent gold income will just need 1-2 Quarries to maintain its ramparts and can buy most of the stone it needs for building projects. It can also be obtained in large amounts by invading (not occupying) Mountain wildlands or players' cities.

Stone is the only resource not used in producing troops, except for Famous City troops such as skilled, expert, and master.

Quarries are required to complete the Foundation, Stone and Logistics tasks.
